This three-day, skills-based workshop is for those people who have successfully completed the Basic Counselling Skills Certificate, and for those non-Berne trainees who can provide evidence of having completed an equivalent certificate training elsewhere.
Applications are invited from practising and trainee counsellors, not only in Transactional Analysis but in other recognised modalities. This course will be suitable for anyone who is working in a therapeutic role and wants to build on the those skills.
Building on fundamental principles of working therapeutically, this highly interactive workshop provides participants with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of therapeutic work, enhance their counselling skills and build professional competence.
A Berne Institute Advanced Counselling Skills Certificate will be awarded on successful completion of the appropriate checklist of criteria plus completion of all three days training, including observed assessment.
Days one and two will focus on skills and practice with some theory input, and day three will be a competency assessment.
The focus is on using models for understanding the here and now experience between counsellor and client.
Topics will include
• Contracting and assessment
• Ego state diagnosis in treatment planning
• Understanding Games in action
• Recognising and working with Impasses
• Integrating ethics into practice
• Use of supervision
• Finding your professional identity
The Berne Institute Advanced Counselling Skills Certificate is an option for those people who have already fulfilled the criteria for the Basic Counselling Skills Certificate and can provide evidence of having undertaken a minimum of 50 hours in clinical practice. Please request a Checklist when booking your place, stating whether you are enrolled on a course at The Berne Institute or elsewhere. All are welcome!

At The Berne Institute we recognise that people come into TA training with widely differing experiences of clinical practice, theoretical knowledge and formal academic learning, and that they differ widely also in their current personal resources and skills. Our courses therefore honour the uniqueness of each individual’s learning and experience and their different learning styles, pace and areas of competence.
The philosophy and practice of Homonomy that respects our mutuality and interconnectedness has been recently integrated into the Berne Institute philosophy. The aim is to expand the focus in our theory and practice from individual change to include a focus on the wider implications of our work on the whole community and our planet.
